Chunk / University Of Nevada – Las Vegas Wind Symphony (Mark Custom / 4867-MCD)

UNLV の最新作。表題はジョナサン・ニューマンの作品で世界初演らしい。ウォルトンの《メジャー・バーバラ》とかアーノルドの《第6の幸運をもたらす宿》とか日本で最近人気のあるレパートリーが取り上げられている。

そもそも今回の購入は、このCDを買えるところを見つけたからなのである。ご存知「NAPPさんの掲示板」で紹介されてから探していたのであるがなかなか見つからなかった。 20世紀初頭に活躍したクラシック作曲家による吹奏楽作品を集めた興味深いCD。

サン＝サーンスの《東洋と西洋》、レスピーギの《ハンティングタワー》、コンクールなどでもよく演奏される（された？）デ・ナルディスの《天の審判》あたりは比較的知名度の高い作品であるが、その他はかなり珍しい。特に注目しているのがミヨーの《ウェスト・ポイント組曲》。
